Scheduling & Keeping Appointments

To make an appointment with the Wellness Center, call 443-352-4200.

Health appointments are made by telephone or in-person. Due to limited staffing, the Wellness Center cannot accommodate walk-in students on a regular basis. We make every effort to see patients within 24 business hours for sick visits and one week for well visits or screenings. Failure to cancel an appointment 24 hours prior to appointment will result in a $20 鈥淣o Show” fee charged to the student鈥檚 account. If a student is more than 10 minutes late for an appointment, the Wellness Center reserves the right to reschedule the appointment. The Wellness Center offers in person or telehealth appointments. We do not provide health care services to students outside of the Wellness Center (i.e. in a residence hall, classroom, or dining hall).

Cost

A nominal fee is assessed for each visit for health services. In addition, the Wellness Center is able to provide some point-of-care testing (e.g., COVID, strep, mono, and flu tests) for a small charge. A number of common prescriptions and over the counter medications are stocked in the Center and can be prescribed and dispensed directly to our patients seen by a provider. The cost of visits for health services is billed directly to the student鈥檚 account as a 鈥淲ellness Center Charge” for privacy purposes.

The Wellness Center does not directly bill health insurance for services provided. Printed itemized statements of visits are available directly from the Wellness Center Patient Portal for purposes of reimbursement by insurance or flex spending account/HSA. In some cases testing is sent to an outside lab directly from the Wellness Center. If this happens, a copy of the student鈥檚 health insurance card is sent with the specimen so the lab can directly bill the insurance company.

Fees are subject to change without notice. Navigate to the ‘Fees’ tab for a list of current fees.

To assist you in finding a healthcare provider in the community or a local specialist, view our Community Resource Guide or contact your insurance carrier directly.

Fighting the flu starts with you. Get vaccinated!

Wash your hands.

Handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of the flu. Use soap and warm water and wash your hands often throughout the day, especially after using the restroom or before eating. If you don鈥檛 have a sink and soap nearby, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Feel free to stop into the Wellness Center to pick up a free hand sanitizer that will attach right to your keychain or backpack. There are also numerous hand sanitizer stations located in high traffic areas throughout campus buildings.

Clean and cover.

Flu virus can live on hard surfaces for up to 24 hours, so it is important to disinfect these surfaces often. Use common household cleaners to wipe doorknobs, countertops, and other surfaces鈥擨NCLUDING CELL PHONES鈥攖o help stop the spread of the virus. Be sure to follow the directions on the disinfectant to ensure maximum effectiveness. Cough and sneeze into your sleeve and wash your hands often. Be careful not to touch your face throughout the day. Many people don鈥檛 realize that the average person touches their face 2000-5000 times a day. Being more mindful of this will decrease your risk of transferring germs from surfaces such as doorknobs and desks to yourself.

If you do end up sick STAY HOME FROM CLASS. Rest. Drink fluids. Repeat.

Flu symptoms are severe and start very quickly. They include high fever (typically above 101掳), chills, heightened fatigue, body aches, sore throat, and cough. If you feel that you might have the flu, call the Wellness Center at x. 4200 (443-352-4200) for an appointment or visit a local urgent care for evaluation. Contact your professors directly to let them know you are sick. Medicines such as ibuprofen can help to decrease fever and aches. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and do your best to stay away from others.

Remember, the Stevenson Wellness Center is here to help you. Feel free to contact us if you feel that you are coming down with flu symptoms or if you have any questions.

Counseling Services

Individual Therapy

Counseling Services provides a short-term individual therapy model to help students maintain and develop their emotional well-being and achieve their educational and personal goals. The Center promotes a healthy and inclusive community through relationship-building, education, crisis intervention, and support.

Common visit reasons:

We cannot accommodate:

  • Students needing more than once a week intervention on an ongoing basis.
  • Students who have been in counseling and/or medication long-term in the past and want to continue care in that format.
  • Students requiring specialized or more intensive treatment.
  • Students manifesting psychosis.

  • Students with moderate to severe substance use problems.

  • Students requiring medication evaluation and/or management, who are not being seen for counseling at the Wellness Center.

Counseling sessions are by appointment. Students are not charged a fee for counseling services. If students must cancel an appointment due to illness or emergency, they are to call the Wellness Center to cancel their appointment. Repeated cancellations and 鈥淣o Shows” may limit a student鈥檚 ability to receive services. If students miss an appointment without calling to cancel, their student account will be charged a $10 鈥淣o Show” fee. If students are more than 15 minutes late to an appointment, they are asked to reschedule. The Wellness Center can only see students on the same day if the student is in a crisis situation (e.g. 鈥 suicidal or in extreme distress).

Disability Services

The Wellness Center does not conduct psychological evaluations for the purpose of determining disability status and also does not make accommodation recommendations for students who have been diagnosed with a disability. For this reason, we cannot provide documentation for students, even if the student is a current or former counseling services patient. The Wellness Center can assist students with a referral to a community provider for a disability evaluation.

Psychiatric Services

Students may be referred to a nurse practitioner at any time by their Wellness Center counselor after the appropriate background information has been gathered and clinical needs established.

There is a fee for accessing psychiatric medication services. This fee is billed directly to Stevenson student accounts as a 鈥淲ellness Center Charge” for privacy purposes. Failure to cancel an appointment at least 24 hours in advance results in the full fee being charged to the student鈥檚 account. Students seeking medication evaluation and/or management for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are referred to an off-campus provider.

The nurse practitioner may also refer students for off-campus services that are not a part of the Wellness Center’s scope of care. A Wellness Center鈥檚 nurse practitioner will refill prescriptions at appointments only, not by fax or phone. The student is responsible for making follow-up appointments, as recommended by the nurse practitioner, in order to refill any medications.

Counseling Referrals

The Wellness Center can assist students in situations when a community referral might be needed for a more long-term therapist, or for a therapist with a more specialized focus. Students can download our 鈥淪martMove鈥 Referral Assistance Form for tips on how to find a therapist in the community. Or, students can view our Community Resource Guide for a list of health and mental health providers local to campus.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is offered in a variety of modalities each semester. The sessions are facilitated by one of the Counseling Center providers. Please see our social media for current offerings.

Clinical Training Program

The 麻豆社 Wellness Center offers a 9-month, practicum/externship training program for up to 18 hours per week for students who are enrolled in an accredited PhD/PsyD program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Students can view and print itemized statements from their Wellness Center visit which can be submitted to their insurance company or flex spending account for reimbursement when applicable. To view your statement, go to our Wellness Center Patient Portal at https://stevenson.medicatconnect.com and click on the Statements tab.

If there is a University delay or closure, the Wellness Center closes along with the University. Students should refer to the Emergency Services link for instructions on how to obtain care during these instances.

Yes. All new  students  taking classes on campus are required to complete the Student Health Form. Please refer to those specific departments for any further health requirement questions, i.e. Athletics.

No, the Student Health Form only needs to be completed your first year at Stevenson. If you haven鈥檛 been a 麻豆社 student for at least 2 years and you are reapplying for admission to 麻豆社 as a student taking classes on campus, you will need to complete an updated Student Health Form.

Complete the Consent to Release/Exchange Medical Information Form located on our Health Forms tab. Please allow two to three business days for our center to fulfill your request.

The Wellness Center staff does not issue medical excuses for academic obligations. Course requirements and attendance are academic matters between the student and the faculty. Students are advised to schedule their Wellness Center appointments outside of set class times. Students who choose to visit the Wellness Center during class time for non-serious conditions should contact their faculty by telephone or e-mail as soon as possible to make the necessary arrangements to complete missed assignments. Students may request proof of a visit to the Wellness Center after a visit, or by contacting the front desk. However, this note does not determine if you will be allowed to make up a missed assignment or if your absence will be officially excused. This decision is solely the responsibility of the instructor. Medical excuse notes are generally not issued for visits and notes will not be given for students seen outside of the Wellness Center. Medical excuses will not be issued during midterms or finals and are not given for routine conditions (colds, sore throat, upset stomach, rash, routine appointments/testing consultations, etc.). If in our medical opinion, the condition is urgent or serious, a medical excuse may be considered. In the event of a serious illness or injury requiring hospitalization or extended absence of 3 or more consecutive business dats from classes, please notify The Office of Disability Services for guidance. The Office of Disability Services will assist the student and/or their family in notifying the necessary faculty once proper documentation can be supplied.

The Counseling Center does not conduct psychological evaluations for the purpose of determining disability status and also does not make accommodations recommendations for students who have been diagnosed with a disability. For this reason, we cannot provide documentation for students, even if the student is a current or former Counseling Services patient. The Wellness Center can provide students with a referral to a community provider for a disability evaluation. An off-campus psychologist or psychiatrist can evaluate a student’s disability status. Alternatively, students may choose to consult with their primary physician. For further questions related to Office of Disability Services please call, 443-352-5320.

Please email the Wellness Center at wellness@stevenson.edu or call us at 443-352-4200. Students may also leave feedback for us by responding to our end of semester survey.

Community Resources

Yes. There are times when the Wellness Center needs to refer students to providers and services in our community. We have compiled a list of local resources to help meet these needs. If there is a type of provider you need access to in this area who is not on the list, please feel free to contact our office for guidance. The list below provides the contact information for services that are nearby to campus but, the Wellness Center does not personally endorse any particular providers. In addition to the resources on this list, students may also check with their health insurance to find a local provider in their network.

Vector Solutions: Smart Choices

麻豆社 is pleased to offer Vector Solutions: Smart Choices, a comprehensive wellness program that delivers accurate and pertinent health information to all students. At Stevenson, we believe that the University experience extends far beyond academics. We want your student to be successful intellectually, physically, and psychologically. We know students can be faced with many challenges that make this success more difficult to attain, such as relationships, sexual health, exposure to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, proper nutrition, and stress. Vector Solutions: Smart Choices is developed for students of the University and provides honest and candid knowledge in an engaging, personalized format about health choices and risk education.

To access your account, go to and log in using your 麻豆社 Single Sign on. Click on the Education tab then click on the link for Vector Solutions: Smart Choices for link information. Also, a weekly email, containing the link, from Vector Solutions will be sent to the student鈥檚 麻豆社 email until the courses are completed.

All incoming students, both residents and commuters, must complete the Vector Solutions: Smart Choices: Alcohol and other Drugs, and Sexual Violence. Students who do not complete this requirement by September 30 for fall entrance or January 15 for spring entrance will not be allowed to reside on campus and/or will be blocked from registering for future classes.

If you are having difficulty accessing the link, please contact the Wellness Center at wellness@stevenson.edu or call 443-352-4200.

COVID-19 Information

The COVID vaccine is highly recommended, however, it is not required for any students.

The following FAQ and Resources are organized to help address your questions.

To assist students who still need to obtain the vaccine, we have posted helpful information and links under the 鈥淰accination Sites and Clinics” tab below. The University will be hosting Vaccination Clinics on campus during the fall semester. Please see the information that follows.

Masking will be optional in instructional spaces (such as classrooms, labs, studios, tutoring centers, and computer labs) and non-instructional spaces (such as offices, dining areas, libraries, study rooms, campus shuttles, athletic facilities, fitness centers, and meeting and event spaces).

Masks will still be required in the SU Wellness Center only for students being evaluated for respiratory symptoms and those that have tested positive for COVID.

Students may request that their provider wear a mask.

As we move to a mask optional campus, please remember that some members of our community or their family members may still have heightened health risks due to COVID-19. These individuals may request that others joining them in a small personal office or other close-proximity situations wear a mask or consider an alternative plan for meeting. We ask the forbearance and consideration of all members of the Stevenson community in accommodating each other鈥檚 requests and perspectives. Let鈥檚 work together using common sense and a spirit of camaraderie to support each other.
