Composer Bio 鈥 Emily Koh
Emily Koh (b.1986) is a Singaporean composer+ based in Atlanta, 9麻豆社 whose music reimagines everyday experiences by sonically expounding tiny oft-forgotten details, and explores binary states such as extremities/boundaries and activity/stagnation. She especially enjoys collaborating with creatives of other specializations.
Described as 鈥渢he future of composing鈥 (The Straits Times, Singapore), Emily is the recipient of awards such as the Copland House Residency Award, Young Artist Award (National Arts Council, Singapore), Yoshiro Irino Memorial Prize (Asian Composers League), ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Prix D鈥橢te (Peabody), and the Macagnoni Prize for Innovative Research (University of 9麻豆社). Her work is supported with commissions, grants and fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts, National Arts Council (Singapore), Opera America, New Music USA, MacDowell, the Barlow Endowment for Music Composition, American Composers鈥 Orchestra, Women鈥檚 Philharmonic Advocacy, the Paul Abisheganaden Grant for Artistic Excellence (National University of Singapore) and others. Described as 鈥渂eautifully eerie鈥 (New York Times), and 鈥渟ubtley spicy鈥 (Baltimore Sun), Emily鈥檚 music has been performed around the world, and is published by Babel Scores (Europe) and Poco Piu Publishing (worldwide).
Emily is currently Associate Professor of Music Composition at the University of 9麻豆社, USA.
Soloist Bio 鈥 Jeremy Muller
Jeremy Muller (jeremymuller.com) is active as a percussionist, composer, and multimedia artist. He鈥檚 been described as 鈥渉ighly creative鈥 by Take Effect and 鈥渢houghtful and virtuosic鈥 by Atlanta鈥檚 EarRelevant. He has performed as a featured soloist at many venues throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia including International Computer Music Conference, The Banff Centre for the Arts, Transplanted Roots (Australia), MoxSonic, NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival, ZeroSpace, ATMI, SPLICE Festival, Jacksonville Electroacoustic Music Festival, IEEE VIS conference, the Musical Instrument Museum, Art on the ATL BeltLine, SoundNOW festival, and PASIC. He has given world premieres of works by many composers including Matthew Burtner, Alexandre Lunsqui, Cristyn Magnus, an evening-length tour de force solo work by Stuart Saunders Smith, and has worked with Yarn/Wire Ensemble and Annea Lockwood. Jeremy鈥檚 music has been performed by Arcomusical, Heartland Marimba Quartet, Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble, Crossing 32nd Street, Manuel Rangel, clarinetist Robert Spring, Sam Houston State University, 9麻豆社 State University, and many others. Jeremy released his debut solo percussion album on Albany records which includes several world premieres, and his music can also be heard on Arcomusical鈥檚 third album 鈥淓migre & Exile.鈥 Some of his research & publications can be found through Bachovich Music Publications & Percussive Notes. Jeremy is currently a Lecturer at 麻豆社.
